[Besent: If Democrats Win Midterm Elections, Government May Accelerate Deficit Reduction Plan] Golden Finance reported on September 9 that U.S. Treasury Secretary Besent stated that if Democrats regain control of either chamber of Congress in the November midterm elections, the Trump administration will strive to push Congress to pass a plan to reduce the federal budget deficit by the end of this year. Besent mentioned that he is working with U.S. Office of Management and Budget Director Vought to develop a fiscal consolidation plan that is expected to lower the federal budget deficit. Besent emphasized that if Democrats win the midterm elections, 'we will have to accelerate the implementation of this plan during the "lame-duck" period and won’t have the luxury of arranging time at our own pace.' The "lame-duck period" he referred to is the approximately two-month span between the November 3 election and January 3, 2027, when the new Congress members take office.
