According to a letter from Mining Minister Thomas Gush to the state-owned Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (responsible for selling all Zimbabwean minerals except gold and silver), the transportation of ores and concentrates has also been suspended. This letter, dated July 21, has been confirmed by the country's Ministry of Mines. Similar to African nations like Guinea, Ghana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe is seeking to derive more value from its natural resources. In February, Zimbabwe suspended the export of lithium concentrates to promote local processing of high-value-added products and curb the illegal transport of lithium. The export restriction was partially eased in April, with the ban now scheduled to take full effect in early 2027.
