Daily AI Talent Transfers
Luke Metz has left OpenAI to join Meta Superintelligence Labs.
He was an undergrad classmate of Alec Radford at Olin. Alec dropped out to start Indico, and after graduating, Luke joined him. In 2015, he worked with Alec and Soumith Chintala to create DCGAN—the default recipe for GANs in the following years. In 2016, Alec went to OpenAI to work on GPT, while Luke joined Google Brain, spending six years studying optimizers. He only joined OpenAI in September 2022, just in time for ChatGPT, and was listed as the Post-training lead for GPT-4.
In late 2024, he co-founded Thinking Machines Lab with Mira Murati, returned in January 2026, and left again in August. Three cutting-edge labs in just eight months.
DINQ’s comment: The person who turned generative models into industrial recipes has now joined Meta’s superintelligence lab, which is still stacking talent and GPUs.
