The regulatory actions targeted service providers that were inactive, insolvent, or lacked operational capability. AUSTRAC CEO Brendan Thomas stated that businesses whose registrations were canceled are prohibited from continuing operations. Some individuals involved have been referred to Australian and international law enforcement or regulatory cooperation agencies. Issues identified include failure to report significant changes, incorrect registration information, and significant risks of money laundering or terrorist financing. AUSTRAC noted that the virtual asset service provider (VASP) registration of GetCoins, a brand under BA Digital Ventures, was canceled in June following customer complaints. The agency stated that GetCoins was allegedly exploited by organized cryptocurrency investment scam activities. This action was conducted in collaboration with the National Anti-Scam Centre to help disrupt related activities. AUSTRAC did not disclose the full list of the 45 businesses or provide a breakdown of the categories of crypto and remittance service providers. The publicly available VASP registry shows that recent actions also involved Cryptolink, Self Custody, Jam Xchange, and Coinsec Australia.
