[Irish Criminal Gangs Allegedly Renting Private Vaults to Store Crypto Wallet Keys]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on September 7, according to Decrypt, the Irish Criminal Assets Bureau stated that local organized crime gangs are renting private vaults to store cryptocurrency wallet private keys and seed phrases, alongside cash, luxury watches, handbags, and passports. The bureau has reported the situation to the government committee responsible for preparing the implementation of new EU anti-money laundering regulations.
Ireland's upcoming regulations will prohibit cash transactions exceeding €10,000 and require businesses to identify customers whose cash spending reaches €3,000 or more. Crypto asset service providers, luxury goods retailers, and crowdfunding platforms will also face stricter oversight.
The head of the Criminal Assets Bureau noted that the use of cryptocurrency in Irish criminal activities remains relatively basic, with cash still being the primary form of funding for illegal activities such as drug trafficking.
