[Bloomberg: Binance Maintains Operations in the EU Without MiCA License]
According to a report by Golden Finance on September 4, citing Bloomberg and informed sources, Binance announced in June its plan to exit the European Union, with the market widely expecting it to be forced out due to the lack of a MiCA license. However, despite the July 1 deadline passing, Binance has continued to operate in the EU through various means.
European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde personally intervened to push Binance to apply for a license, which was not approved. Binance has since withdrawn its license application in Greece. Previously, users in six EU countries with local entities were asked to migrate off the platform. Some users later regained trading access through "reverse solicitation" provisions, and Binance has also routed some EU users' trades through its Abu Dhabi entity, which is under different regulatory oversight.
Currently, the European Securities and Markets Authority has sent a letter requesting confirmation of Binance's orderly exit progress. Binance stated that it is committed to achieving long-term compliance under the MiCA framework. Data shows that Binance's global spot trading volume share exceeds 45%, while its euro-denominated trading share is approximately 3% to 4%, with little change from previous levels.
