Last week, Hugging Face's open-source robotics company, Pollen Robotics, launched Microduck, a bipedal robot priced at $399. Standing only 25 cm tall and weighing about 800 grams, it is equipped with 15 motors, cameras, LiDAR, and two IMUs. Straight out of the box, it can walk, sit, grab objects, kick a ball, and even get back up after falling. With wheels attached, it can even glide. Microduck's movements can be retrained. Users first train movements using reinforcement learning in the MuJoCo physics simulator, then transfer the trained strategies to the physical robot. The SDK, simulator, and complete reinforcement learning training stack have all been open-sourced, with the entire software suite licensed under Apache 2.0.
