[Bessent Discusses Energy Shock: Mentions Ukraine's Attack on Russian Facilities First, Then Iran Conflict] Golden Finance reported on September 3 that U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent stated that Ukraine's drone attacks on Russian energy facilities are one of the reasons for the global rise in energy prices. When asked about the issue of high living costs in the U.S., he first mentioned these attacks and then referred to the conflict with Iran. Bessent said on Fox News on Wednesday: 'We are currently experiencing an energy shock, stemming both from the Ukraine conflict—because Ukraine decided to destroy Russian energy assets and refined oil, which is putting upward pressure on global prices—and from the conflict with Iran.' Ukraine's strikes have forced Moscow to extend its diesel export ban until the end of this month. This development, coupled with relatively lower fuel shipments through the Strait of Hormuz compared to crude oil, has led to tighter global supply. Bessent previously stated that pipelines will eventually help energy suppliers bypass the Strait of Hormuz and noted that as suppliers develop alternative energy routes, the strait will become irrelevant in the coming years.
