Robert De Niro’s Sam “Ace” Rothstein moves through Las Vegas in a series of carefully coordinated suits, shirts, ties, and accessories, each reflecting his wealth and his obsession with control. Giorgio Armani was closely associated with the film’s wardrobe, making his refined style a natural fit for the world Martin Scorsese was recreating. The clothes had to look expensive, precise, and unmistakably connected to the flashy Las Vegas of the 1970s and early 1980s. De Niro reportedly wore dozens of different outfits throughout the film, many built around bold color combinations that might look excessive anywhere else. In Casino, that excess was exactly the point. Rothstein is a man who wants every detail under control, from the casino floor to his appearance. Scorsese also used clothing to distinguish his characters visually. De Niro’s wardrobe remains controlled and immaculate, while Joe Pesci’s Nicky Santoro becomes increasingly aggressive and less refined as the story unfolds.
