[Ethereum EIP-12188 Proposal to Reduce Consensus Layer Block Retention Window Gains Developer Support] BlockBeats News, August 18: Ethereum developer kevaundray submitted the EIP-12188 proposal on GitHub, suggesting a reduction in the consensus layer (CL) block retention window to alleviate node storage pressure. The proposal is currently in the public review phase and has received support from some Ethereum client developers. Developer dapplion expressed support for the idea, while Lighthouse client contributor michaelsproul stated that the adjustment would not cause significant issues for Lighthouse operations. The proposal notes that, with changes in Ethereum's historical data requirements, reducing the consensus layer's historical block retention time could optimize node resource usage. During discussions, it was mentioned that pruning historical data on the execution layer (EL) might affect some long-running nodes' ability to provide old block data. However, developers believe this would not threaten network security or the normal operation of nodes. Currently, EIP-12188 has not yet been merged and still requires further review and community discussion. [Original Link]
