Early this morning, Trump gave a speech. Forget the other stuff—what stood out was his take on the Iran issue. First, Trump unilaterally declared his own victory, claiming that the U.S. has already crippled Iran. He also announced that the U.S. has taken control of the Strait of Hormuz and even said oil prices would soon drop. On top of that, he stated there’s no intention to renew the temporary ceasefire agreement with Iran.
But instead of lowering oil prices, this speech actually caused them to rise. On one hand, the market no longer buys into Trump’s one-sided ‘victory’ narrative. On the other hand, Iran announced it would increase its ‘resistance’ efforts in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that it can’t allow the U.S. blockade to continue indefinitely. After all, the latest data shows Iran’s inflation has skyrocketed to insane levels.
Honestly, this situation was entirely predictable. Both the U.S. and Iran are reaching their limits, so it’s no surprise that their stances are becoming tougher. Still, I don’t believe either side will engage in an all-out, unrestricted war—it’s just too unlikely. From Trump’s speech, it seems like his strategy is more about dragging Iran down. After all, blocking Iran’s ports poses a much greater threat to their livelihood.
Before and after Trump’s speech, Iran had already made several statements. U.S. stocks saw a slight dip, but Bitcoin actually went up. What’s frustrating for me is that I had set a sell order at $64,000 today because I didn’t think any agreements would be reached, so I felt no pressure setting it there. But now it’s already hit $64,500, and I’m feeling a bit annoyed. Even though my cost basis is only $63,000.
