The world's most powerful AI is in the U.S., but Americans are quickly becoming the most afraid of AI globally
This data from Stanford is honestly kind of mind-blowing. Excitement about AI products and services:
China: 84%
U.S.: Only 38%
Trust in AI:
China: 72%
U.S.: Only 32%.
What’s funny is that the U.S. has OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta—the strongest models, the most capital, and the top-tier chips are almost all in the U.S.
But when AI is discussed in American society, the most common words are unemployment, misinformation, out of control, and regulation. 64% of Americans even believe that in the next 20 years, AI will reduce the number of jobs.
China, on the other hand, has a completely different vibe. People are also worried about unemployment, but their first reaction is more like: Can this thing help me make money, improve efficiency, do business, write code, or boost production?
So what I find most interesting about the U.S.-China AI competition isn’t just whether GPT or domestic models score 3 points higher.
The U.S.’s biggest advantage is creating AI.
China’s often underestimated advantage might be that they’re more willing to actually use AI.
