Attackers can access Macs exposed to the internet (port 5900) without valid credentials and implant Monero mining programs. Apple urgently addressed this vulnerability on August 6 with updates to macOS Tahoe 26.6.1, Sequoia 15.7.9, and Sonoma 14.8.9, enhancing credential verification through improved state management. NCSC has confirmed multiple attacks where attackers gained root access and deployed mining software.
