According to RFI, hundreds of people in Guinea have recently been lured by promises of high returns, investing hundreds to thousands of euros on various crypto asset platforms, only to find themselves unable to withdraw funds. The Central Bank of Guinea issued a statement clarifying that virtual currencies do not have legal tender status locally and are not guaranteed, labeling such scams as essentially Ponzi schemes. One implicated platform, McGivern, shut down on August 10. The Central Bank has instructed digital payment systems like Orange Money to freeze and flag related transaction accounts. Judicial authorities have also stepped in to identify and hold those responsible accountable, while assisting victims in recovering part of their losses. https://www.(wublock123.com)/news/news-66463
