a few thoughts as this discussion continues
1. no tradeoff is guaranteed to remain true in perpetuity. ethereum core devs made certain best effort decisions 5 years ago, and with the benefit of hindsight, we can see how they played out: PBS, the yield curve, no native delegation/LST, attempts to optimize the chain for lower capitalized/low bandwidth validators. the only way to make progress is to commit, observe, iterate
2. this is the classic dichotomy of "equality of opportunity vs equality of outcomes". ie. parameters can be selected where it is possible to stake from home because we aim for consumer hw and bandwidth) vs. we must ensure that as many solo stakers are engaged in validating as possible. if this was correlated, we would be increasing issuance. too many validators actually constrains our design space! see MaxEB/stake consolidations
3. do not assume the motivations of those arguing for "decentralization" or the plight of the solo staker to be purely altruistic, or their primary motivation
4. solo stakers are not a monolith - i have spoken to some in support (see below), some against. and further, anyone can claim they are a solo staker, twitter is an adversarial environment where *gasp* people can lie for their own ends (not saying nixo is lying)
i look forward to everyone thoughtfully engaging in core governance over the next few months 🫡 decisions will not be made here(trent.eth)
