[Apple's Price Negotiation with ChangXin Memory Faces Obstacles, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix Gain DRAM Bargaining Advantage]
According to DeepTech TechFlow on August 5, citing South Korean media outlet DigitalDaily, Apple recently failed to push China's ChangXin Memory to further lower prices during negotiations over the supply of LPDDR5X and other mobile DRAM products. The report states that ChangXin Memory, supported by strong domestic demand in China, has maintained pricing levels similar to or even higher than those of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, limiting Apple's ability to reduce procurement costs through Chinese suppliers.
The report further notes that as major memory manufacturers continue to shift production capacity toward high-bandwidth memory and other high-value-added AI storage products, the supply of general-purpose DRAM has tightened, exacerbating market supply-demand imbalances. Against this backdrop, Chinese manufacturers are no longer acting as low-cost alternatives but are instead supporting the price floor for general-purpose DRAM to some extent, thereby enhancing Samsung Electronics' and SK Hynix's bargaining power in subsequent negotiations with global customers.
