👀Curtailable loads (ie: Bitcoin mining) just got a connection pathway the grid can say "yes" to sooner
This is quite big news for Bitcoin mining as it gives the ERCOT grid the ability to approve Bitcoin mining ahead of AI on the grid.
For a while I've been predicting that AI companies will need to become Bitcoin mining companies (by reserving 1-3% of their power for flexible load) so that they can reclassify themselves as curtailable load, and win grid contracts ahead of pure-play AI datacenters
That convergence hasn't happened yet. But it just got one step closer.
This was covered outside the crypto media (this one in Renewable Energy World)
