[Bloomberg Analyst: Coldcard Incident's Over $100 Million Theft Ranks Second in U.S. Conventional Financial Theft Cases]
Bloomberg Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas posted on the X platform, stating that if the Coldcard wallet incident results in a loss of over $100 million, this amount would rank second among traditional theft cases in the U.S., second only to the 1990 Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum heist in Boston (approximately $500 million). However, when compared to historical theft incidents in the crypto industry, the $100 million scale wouldn't even make the top ten. If traditional theft cases and crypto asset theft cases were combined into a single ranking, crypto-related cases would occupy 9 out of the top 10 thefts in U.S. history. Analysts pointed out that the scale of crypto asset thefts has far surpassed traditional financial crimes in recent years, sarcastically noting that U.S. regulators' prior approval of Bitcoin ETFs is driving more funds into this sector.
