[Pryce: If the Federal Reserve Meeting Sees More Than Three Dissenting Votes, It May Signal a Shift Toward a September Rate Hike]
Jin10 News, July 28 – Pryce stated that the number of dissenting votes at this week's Federal Reserve meeting will be closely monitored as an indicator of the degree of divergence within the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC). In a report, the institution's U.S. Chief Economist, Blerina Uruci, predicted that the voting outcome would be 10 votes in favor and 2 votes against, with Logan and Harker dissenting and advocating for a 25-basis-point rate hike.
Uruci noted that if there are more than three dissenting votes, even if rates remain unchanged in July, it would serve as a clearer signal that the committee is moving toward a rate hike in September. The economist's baseline forecast is that the FOMC will keep rates unchanged over the next 12 months. She also stated, 'I believe Waller's inclination for a September rate hike is not as strong as current market pricing suggests.'
