Whether you're good at trading or not is actually related to your personality. Our company's tech guy is nicknamed 'Mr. Know-It-All' because he seems to know everything and can always give you a couple of explanations about anything. But it feels like he only knows the surface-level stuff. He's smart enough to understand things, but not to truly grasp them. He doesn’t get the real core of making money. This conversation has happened several times: 'I recently turned $1,000 into $20,000 again.' 'And then what? Blew it all up.' 'Oh, so how much do you have now?' 'Nothing.' Because when he was close to liquidation, he got emotional, added margin, and leveraged up. This scenario has repeated 2-3 times over the past two years. Later, I realized that making money is actually pretty simple. It’s just about being able to tolerate missing out, and then going all-in with heavy positions when the certainty is extremely high. And when you realize you’ve made a mistake, you need to cut your losses decisively. The people around me mostly understand this, but they just can’t do it. They can’t overcome human nature. No matter how much they earn, they get emotional, and when they lose, they either bury their heads in the sand and ignore it, or they double down on losing positions, hoping to win it back. They just can’t cut their losses and admit they were wrong.
