As the saying goes, 'Know yourself and your enemy, and you'll never lose a battle.' @jessepollak once again misread Robinhood Chain's cards this time. But honestly, looking back at the major trends @base has missed, it's not all that surprising. Robinhood's Stock Tokens, launched this month, are clearly tokenized debt securities backed 1:1 by real stocks, yet he called them simple derivatives. The subtext? Only the 1:1 equities from the future Base and Coinbase combo are the 'legit' on-chain tokenized stock solution. This might seem like a simple misjudgment, but it’s really just another reflection of how the Base team repeatedly misses the mark on major trends. Let’s rewind: When it came to creator tokens, Base went all-in on Zora and Base App, which did bring a short-term boom. But the narrative lacked sustained ecosystem support, and after a massive token bubble, it all fizzled out. Even @brian_armstrong admitted it was a strategic misstep. During the first wave of the AI Agent MEME trend kicked off by @virtuals_io, Base seemed to get an early start but ended up late to the party. The real growth and ecosystem expansion for AI Agent MEMEs were driven by @solana. The same thing happened with the x402 Agent Payment trend. Originally led by @coinbase as its native payment protocol, Base should have been the biggest beneficiary. But during the peak hype of the x402 protocol, they were busy playing around with founders posting MEMEs. They had a chance to ride the x402 protocol wave and drive a major ecosystem trend, but Base missed the boat yet again. To be fair, Base+Coinbase does have some unshakable advantages, like high-performance EVM compatibility, institutional-grade trust, a massive developer team, and community resources. But why, just why, does Base always seem a step behind and fail to seize the moment when major trend windows open?
