[U.S. Court Seizes Approximately $8.37 Million in Crypto Assets from BlackCat/ALPHV Ransomware Conspirator]
Foresight News reports that the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida has ordered the seizure of approximately 90.319 BTC, 7,999.873 XMR, and small amounts of XRP, XLM, and SOL, with a total value of about $8.37 million, held by Angelo Martino, a former ransomware negotiation expert and conspirator with the BlackCat/ALPHV ransomware group. The court also ordered the confiscation of two Florida properties, as well as vehicles, boats, and other assets owned by Martino.
Foresight News notes that since April 2023, Angelo Martino betrayed the cybersecurity company DigitalMint and its clients by conspiring with the BlackCat/ALPHV ransomware group. He provided hackers with confidential negotiation information from victims (including insurance payout limits, internal negotiation positions, and strategies), helping the hackers maximize ransom demands and profiting from it himself. Additionally, he participated in extortion activities targeting U.S. victims, assisting in obtaining approximately $75.3 million in ransom payments.
