[Iran Plans to Impose 'Environmental Service Fees' on Ships Passing Through the Strait of Hormuz] BlockBeats News, July 18, according to Iranian media Fars News, the Iranian Department of Environment has submitted the 'Implementation Guidelines for Charging Environmental Service Fees on Ships Passing Through the Strait of Hormuz' to the government. According to the proposal, the fee standards will be determined based on factors such as the type of vessel, nature of cargo, transit history, and potential environmental risk levels. The specific payment and enforcement mechanisms will be formulated by the relevant authorities at a later stage. The Iranian side stated that the proposal was developed under the framework of international laws such as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). When vessels violate the principle of 'innocent passage' or pose threats to the security, public health, and ecological environment of coastal states, the coastal state has the right to take lawful measures and may charge fees for public health and environmental protection services provided. The head of the Iranian Department of Environment emphasized that ensuring the safety and sustainable navigation of the Strait of Hormuz requires corresponding financial support and stated, 'The safety of the Strait of Hormuz has always been, is now, and will continue to be the responsibility of the Islamic Republic of Iran.'
