Trezor Chief Commercial Officer Danny Sanders responded to on-chain investigator ZachXBT's claim that hardware wallets are 'complete garbage,' stating that software or firmware updates can indeed impact urgent and large transactions. However, this criticism mainly targets professional users managing significant assets and shouldn't be used to dismiss all hardware wallets. Previously, ZachXBT suggested using a standalone iPhone, not used for other purposes, to store assets and sign transactions. Sanders noted that while a standalone iPhone can be part of an advanced security setup, features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular network, and iMessage also increase the attack surface. For regular users, hardware wallets still enhance security by isolating private keys and verifying transaction details on an independent screen. Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm seemed to agree more with ZachXBT's suggestion and called for mobile wallets to support BIP39 passphrases and offline signing.
