According to Wu Blockchain, the District Attorney of South Dakota announced that a local 43-year-old crypto investor, Benjamin Paul Wiener, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on 29 charges, including wire fraud, money laundering, bank fraud, and aggravated identity theft. The indictment alleges that Wiener used entities like Benaiah Capital to lure investors with false statements, misappropriating funds and laundering money through cryptocurrency exchanges, resulting in an estimated $20 million in losses. Additionally, Wiener is accused of forging documents and stealing identity information in April 2025 to fraudulently obtain a $1 million credit line from a financial institution in Sioux Falls.
