a16z Invests in AI Agent Security Company Runta

Odaily Planet Daily News – Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has announced its investment in AI Agent security startup Runta. The company aims to help enterprises manage and constrain AI agents in a manner akin to "raising children." The specific investment amount has not been disclosed. Runta's founder, Guanlan Dai, previously worked on the technical team at Cloudflare and served as the founding engineer at API connectivity startup Kong. He stated that AI agents share similarities with growing children: they possess the ability to autonomously execute tasks but also require boundaries, supervision, and permission management. Dai believes that just as parents implement household safety measures and restrict children's access to credit cards, enterprises need to limit AI agents' access to critical files, define the scope of permissible operations, and set caps on disposable funds for individual transactions. Runta is developing an "AI Agent Guardianship" infrastructure to help enterprises manage AI agents' permissions, mitigate security risks, and establish behavioral boundaries, preventing autonomous AI systems from causing data breaches, operational errors, or financial losses during task execution. As enterprises increasingly deploy AI agents with autonomous decision-making capabilities, establishing a trustworthy and secure agent management system is becoming a new infrastructure requirement. Runta aims to become the "parental control layer" in the AI Agent era, providing enterprises with capabilities such as agent identity management, permission control, risk limitation, and operational oversight.
