**[The U.S.-Iran Standoff Will Ultimately End in Negotiations]**
According to a report by Jinse Finance, the U.S. military has launched strikes against Iran for five consecutive days, aiming to weaken its offensive capabilities in the critical shipping route of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump has further threatened that if no agreement is reached, Iran's power plants and bridges will be bombed next week. Tehran, on the other hand, warned that if the U.S. continues its attacks, the conflict will inevitably escalate.
Dr. Farman Farmanian, a lecturer in international politics at Cambridge University, stated that the White House will soon have to return to the negotiation table, especially considering the approaching U.S. midterm elections. She pointed out that Iran is eager for negotiations and has left the door open, noting that Iran's economy was already "quite poor" before the conflict erupted. However, she added that Iran has completely lost trust in the U.S. at this point. From Iran's perspective, the U.S. has once again withdrawn from a memorandum of understanding, just as it did during Trump's first term when he exited the Iran nuclear deal.
Earlier this year, following joint strikes with Israel against Iran, Trump reached a memorandum of understanding with Tehran, in which both sides pledged to achieve a permanent ceasefire within 60 days. However, the ceasefire quickly broke down—Iran attacked vessels it accused of attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without authorization, while the U.S. responded with escalating strikes.
Dr. Farman Farmanian hinted that this war is unlikely to continue for long. She stated that Iran's economic situation is undoubtedly pushing it toward the negotiation table. Similarly, if oil prices, inflation, and fertilizer costs are driven higher, it will also force the U.S. to return to negotiations. After all, Trump is facing midterm elections, and this matter, regardless of other factors, is crucial to his political legacy. *(Jin10)*
