[The U.S. May Intend to Fully Pressure Iran Economically]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, Mehran Kamrava, a professor of government studies at Georgetown University’s Qatar campus, pointed out that the Iranian government is "deliberately" announcing the deaths of seven soldiers in a U.S. military attack in an attempt to rally national sentiment and consolidate public support during wartime. He stated that Iran is currently experiencing a resurgence of nationalism, and the authorities are emphasizing the soldiers' sacrifices for the country to maintain public support for the regime. This support is crucial, as Iran is grappling with high inflation, high unemployment, and economic losses amounting to $270 billion.
Kamrava believes that Iran is aware it cannot compete militarily with the U.S., so it is shifting the focus of the conflict to the economic domain, with attacks on shipping being a reflection of this strategy. The U.S. may also adopt similar measures in response. He noted, "Revolutions cannot happen in the midst of hunger. When people begin to worry about their next meal, basic safety, and shelter, the U.S. might attempt to exhaust Iran's economic resilience." (Jin10)
