Golden Finance reported on July 15 that, according to the Financial Times, multiple informed sources revealed that the European Commission plans to announce a series of penalty decisions against Google within the next week. At a time when tensions between the EU and the US over digital regulatory rules are beginning to ease, this move will further strengthen the EU's regulatory efforts on large tech companies.
According to an internal document from the European Commission and several individuals familiar with the plans, EU enforcement agencies will make multiple independent decisions targeting Google and impose fines totaling hundreds of millions of euros. This enforcement action will also include the threat of daily fines and new regulatory directives issued under the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
Under the EU's Digital Markets Act, companies found in violation could face fines of up to 10% of their global revenue, and Google's parent company Alphabet reported revenue of $402.83 billion last year. (Jin10)
