According to U.S. financial media outlet Semafor, a senior White House official stated on Tuesday that the Trump administration has left room for future executive actions to address issues related to open-source artificial intelligence (AI) models. The official mentioned that, in addition to an executive order signed by Trump last month, the administration is also engaged in "a significant amount of ongoing work." The executive order established a voluntary review mechanism for AI models. At a press conference on July 2 marking the launch of this mechanism, U.S. National Cyber Director John Kean-Cross told reporters that the order "also includes open-source scanning and coordination mechanisms." He added, "If we do not protect and strengthen our open-source ecosystem, we cannot achieve the President's vision." His remarks reflect the U.S. government's desire to bolster the country's emerging open-source industry, which is increasingly concerned about being outpaced in the competition.
