[Dragonfly Partner: The 'DeFi Hacker Doomsday' Has Not Materialized, Annualized Stolen Amount in 2026 Estimated at $1.89 Billion]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on July 14, Dragonfly partner Haseeb tweeted in response to OpenZeppelin co-founder Manuel Aráoz's previously pessimistic views on DeFi security. Haseeb argued that despite models like GLM 5.2, Fable, and GPT 5.6 being launched and actively used by attackers, the anticipated 'hacker doomsday' in DeFi has not occurred.
Chart data shows that based on current year-to-date data and operational rates, the annualized stolen amount in DeFi for 2026 is estimated at $1.89 billion, with a cumulative stolen amount of approximately $986 million year-to-date—lower than 2025 levels and still within historical ranges.
Haseeb believes that the deeper change lies in the fact that while the number of hacking incidents has increased, the scale of individual attacks has declined more rapidly. Attackers are now more focused on targeting smaller protocols and abandoned projects, while larger protocols have implemented more robust security measures. As a result, the overall security of funds has not significantly deteriorated.
