[SK Hynix CEO: Memory Chip Shortage May Persist Beyond 2030] According to a report by Jinse Finance, on July 11, SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-Jung stated that the memory chip shortage currently affecting the computer, automotive, and device markets may persist beyond 2030. Kwak Noh-Jung mentioned that customers are signing long-term contracts because they 'believe the shortage will last longer.' The company, along with its peers—Samsung Electronics and Micron Technology—has become a major beneficiary of the artificial intelligence boom. Massive spending by data center operators has driven demand for both traditional memory and a new type of high-bandwidth memory. This buying frenzy has made it even more challenging to meet the broad demand for storage chips, leading to shortages in sectors such as computers, smartphones, and automobiles. Kwak Noh-Jung stated that SK Hynix's analysis indicates that this shortage could extend into the next decade. Signals from customers also suggest that people expect an insufficient supply of storage chips for the foreseeable future.
