At this point, the Democrats path to the Senate is not a race against Republicans. It’s a race against party division and foreign interference. Just like in 2016 when Russia targeted divisions in the Right, they did so on the left. Dems have always struggled with a wide tent, and a focus on personality candidates over pragmatic ones. But that divide is now amplified more than ever. Everyone wants a perfect candidate with only their views - and has been told by their peers (and online bots) to stay home if they don’t get their way. As if somehow, surrendering your rights to Trump, is better than getting a Dem you slightly disagree with. The bots and astroturfers are eager to gloss over nuance, find a candidates partial statements and use them to inflame the base. They’re also quick to leverage confusion, like Platner’s withdrawal and amplify conspiracy to spread contempt. All of this made worse by a young immature crowd of vloggers who can’t separate sensationalist rhetoric (and views) from actual reporting. When you run the numbers it’s clear, Dems *HAVE* the total number of voters to flip the Senate. All that matters is if they can be united enough to actually show up.(Adam Cochran (adamscochran.eth))
