[European Parliament Calls for Review of DeFi and NFT Regulation, MiCA Follow-Up Framework on the Agenda]
According to Crypto.news, members of the European Parliament passed a policy position report on Tuesday, urging the European Commission to review whether DeFi, staking, crypto lending, NFTs, and tokenized financial assets should be included in the follow-up regulatory framework of MiCA. The report does not amend existing laws or impose new obligations but sets priority directions for the next phase of crypto regulation. It also calls for consistent implementation among member states, warning that differing approaches could undermine the EU's single market for digital assets. In May, the European Commission launched a public consultation on whether MiCA should be extended to cover more crypto activities and whether to reconsider restrictions on interest-bearing stablecoins. The report takes a positive stance on tokenization and euro stablecoins, stating that unified rule enforcement could enhance the competitiveness of European financial markets.
