[Ukraine Claims Attack on Russian Ships, Worsening Crimea Fuel Shortage]
According to Golden Finance, on July 7, Ukraine stated that it had attacked eight Russian small fuel tankers in the Sea of Azov overnight, as Kyiv attempts to cut off gasoline supplies to Crimea. Robert Brovdi, commander of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces, said on Tuesday: 'The battle over fuel transported to Crimea via the Sea of Azov continues.'
As the Russia-Ukraine conflict enters its fifth year, Kyiv has intensified strikes on Russian refineries to disrupt fuel supplies across its territory. With billions of euros in funding from the European Union starting to flow in, Ukraine's morale is being boosted.
Brovdi noted that these small fuel tankers are subject to international sanctions and are part of Russia's shadow fleet. Each has a deadweight tonnage of 7,000 tons and was built between 2006 and 2012.
