[Qatar LNG Ship Attacked While Exiting the Strait of Hormuz, Testing U.S.-Iran Ceasefire Arrangement] According to Golden Finance, on July 7, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport ship was struck by a projectile near the coast of Oman while exiting the Strait of Hormuz. This incident has heightened concerns within the shipping industry about the safety of this critical waterway and has also tested the agreement between the U.S. and Iran aimed at preventing such attacks. According to informed sources, the Al Rekayyat was attacked early Tuesday morning. Due to the sensitivity of the incident, the sources requested anonymity. An alert issued by the security consultancy EOS Risk Group confirmed that the attack occurred approximately 8 nautical miles (15 kilometers) east of Limah, Oman. A fire subsequently broke out on the ship, and the incident was classified as a drone or missile attack. Ship tracking data indicated that the vessel, owned by Qatar's state-owned shipping company Nakilat, appeared to have its transponder turned off at the time of the incident. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) had previously issued an alert but did not disclose the name of the vessel involved. QatarEnergy and Nakilat have not responded to requests for comment.
