[Argentina Temporarily Halts Legislative Process for Argentina-US Trade Agreement]
Golden Finance reported on July 6 that the Argentine government announced on July 5 that it would not submit the reciprocal trade and investment agreement signed between Argentina and the United States to Congress for approval in the short term. On February 5 of this year, the Argentine government announced the signing of the reciprocal trade and investment agreement with the United States. According to the Argentine Constitution, treaties concluded by the Argentine government with other countries and international organizations must be approved by Congress.
According to Argentine media outlet TN Television, the Argentine government stated that the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling in February, determining that the U.S. "International Emergency Economic Powers Act" does not authorize the president to impose large-scale tariffs. This ruling restricts the U.S. president's ability to fulfill commitments related to tariffs and market access through executive orders, thereby affecting certain provisions in the Argentina-US reciprocal trade and investment agreement concerning market access.
As a result, the Argentine government has decided that the agreement will not enter the legislative agenda in the near future. (Xinhua News Agency)
