CZ: I went to jail for Binance's incomplete KYC, but Hyperliquid has no KYC
On June 29, 2026, Binance founder CZ @cz_binance discussed Hyperliquid in an interview with The Block. He mentioned that Hyperliquid has made some interesting innovations, but its no-KYC smart contract model is fundamentally different from centralized exchanges. CZ pointed out that the protocol is controlled by a small team, its code is not open-source, and it holds extremely high levels of authority.
He noted that the current regulatory environment is very different, recalling how he went to jail due to Binance's incomplete KYC, while Hyperliquid operates without KYC. Although he strongly opposes Binance adopting a similar model, he hopes Hyperliquid succeeds. If its mechanism proves to be decentralized, it could bring a higher degree of freedom to the entire industry.
