According to the *South China Morning Post*, Sun Shengbin from the Wenzhou Public Security Bureau, Lou Yandi from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Zhejiang Provincial Public Security Department, and their team detailed the technical processes used by Chinese law enforcement to track, seize, and freeze illegal virtual assets in the June 4 issue of the *Journal of Forensic Science and Technology*.
The paper outlines that the police's forensic process for crypto-related crimes is mainly divided into three parts: device cracking, on-chain tracking, and asset freezing. For device forensics, the police use professional tools like Meiya Pico and Pinghang for full-disk scanning and intelligent filtering, retrieving mnemonic phrases from mobile notes, instant messaging apps, and image recognition. For on-chain tracking, they trace transaction fees back to trading platforms and use techniques like cross-chain analysis and mixer timestamp comparisons to uncover the flow of funds. For asset handling, they seize assets by transferring private keys to police-controlled multi-signature wallets or collaborating with centralized exchanges to freeze accounts.
