[Frequent Errors in Data Releases, Regulatory Agency States U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Needs to Strengthen Data Protection] BlockBeats News, June 30 — The U.S. Department of Labor Office of Inspector General stated in a report that although the Bureau of Labor Statistics has taken measures to enhance data protection following several incidents of premature disclosure of critical economic data in 2024, further efforts are needed to prevent such events from recurring. The audit evaluated three separate incidents, including the early release of Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, delays in employment data publication, and situations where statistical methods were disclosed to only a very limited number of individuals. The U.S. Department of Labor Office of Inspector General noted: "In response to these incidents, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has addressed vulnerabilities in IT security, revised performance standards, strengthened management oversight, updated policies and procedures, and conducted relevant training. However, we found that there is still room for improvement, which could help reduce the risk of improper disclosure of critical economic information." (Jin10)
