[World Economic Forum AI Expert: Globally, there may ultimately be only 10 foundational models, AI fragmentation does not mean isolation]
Reported by Jinse Finance, on June 30, according to Yicai, Maria Basso, Head of AI Applications and Impact at the World Economic Forum's Centre for AI Excellence (CAIE), stated in an exclusive interview with reporters that 'fragmentation' does not equate to 'isolation,' as no single country can independently control the entire AI value chain. She believes that the future global AI competition paradigm will no longer involve blindly following the full industry chain but will depend on whether economies can precisely invest in their unique "sharp-edge" tracks and establish a rational relationship of "strategic interdependence" with one another.
She also predicted that globally, there may ultimately be only around 10 foundational models. She argued that this implies that for some economies, instead of spending vast amounts of money to repeatedly build a model that could become obsolete at any time, it would be better to first clarify their true advantages within the entire AI value chain.
