[US Media: US Government to Decide Who Can Use the New Version of ChatGPT]
According to a report by Jinse Finance on June 27, citing the Washington Post, the US government will review companies seeking to use the latest technology developed by ChatGPT creator OpenAI. This marks a significant expansion of regulatory oversight over Silicon Valley since the Trump administration.
OpenAI announced its latest artificial intelligence model, GPT-5.6 (named Sol), in a blog post published on Friday. The article stated that the government will first approve who can use the new version, while AI companies and the government will jointly develop a long-term regulatory plan for the industry.
The company explicitly expressed caution regarding further federal government regulation. OpenAI noted: "We believe this government approval process should not become the default long-term model. It would prevent users, developers, businesses, cybersecurity defenders, and global partners who truly need these tools from accessing the best resources."
