[International Maritime Organization Announces Operational Guidelines for Hormuz Strait Evacuation Plan]
Golden Finance reports that on June 24, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) announced the operational guidelines for the Hormuz Strait evacuation plan, stating that over 11,000 crew members stranded on vessels in the Gulf region will be evacuated in phases under a unified coordination mechanism. According to the document released by the IMO, all vessels awaiting evacuation are to remain in their current positions and must not proceed toward the Hormuz Strait or designated waiting areas on their own but should wait for further instructions. The IMO emphasized that this measure aims to prevent congestion in the waterways and reduce risks posed by mines and the complex navigation environment. The document indicates that the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) and the French-led Maritime Information Cooperation and Awareness (MICA) Centre will be responsible for contacting the relevant vessels and notifying them to proceed to designated waiting areas. Subsequently, vessels may, based on their own risk assessments, choose to exit the Hormuz Strait via the northern route through Iranian waters or the southern route coordinated by Oman and the United States.
