The Russian State Duma's State Building and Legislation Committee has approved a second-reading amendment proposing administrative fines for deploying mining infrastructure or conducting crypto mining in data centers. Individuals could face fines ranging from 100,000 to 150,000 rubles (approximately $1,300 to $2,000) and have their equipment confiscated; sole proprietors and officials could be fined 300,000 to 800,000 rubles (approximately $4,000 to $11,000); legal entities could face fines of 1 million to 2 million rubles (approximately $13,000 to $27,000) or have their operations suspended for up to 90 days. Reports indicate that Russia had already stipulated last year that registered data centers cannot host third-party mining, engage in self-mining, or organize mining pools, but penalties were not previously specified.
