**[Polymarket Accused of Paying Creators to Film Fake Betting Videos]**
Odaily Planet Daily News: Crypto prediction market platform Polymarket has been accused of paying dozens of creators, mostly college-aged, to film betting videos on pages highly similar to its website. Some of these videos allegedly showcase fake profits. After reviewing 1,105 videos posted by 10 creators since December, it was found that approximately 70% of the videos contained betting content, with about $1.9 million in displayed bets being non-genuine transactions.
One video published in January shows college student George Makihara celebrating a $100,000 win for betting that Donald Trump would say "McDonald’s" that month. However, the footage was reportedly filmed two months earlier, and Trump did not publicly say the word in January. Over 50 real accounts on Polymarket that bet on the same event incurred losses. Some creators entered transactions on test pages, including one with a misspelled domain name "(poiymarket.com)," which was allegedly constructed by Polymarket or used for engineering testing purposes.
In 118 videos, creators showcased nearly $900,000 in fictional profits, while these bets would have resulted in losses exceeding $166,000 based on real outcomes. Creators reportedly earned $2,000 to $3,000 per month and were required not to disclose the collaboration arrangements. Polymarket stated that it is committed to maintaining an accurate, fair, and transparent market and plans to conduct a comprehensive audit of promotional content. (Decrypt)
