Serenity: AMD is actively locking in CW laser supply, indicating that upstream supply bottlenecks are beginning to emerge
BlockBeats News: On June 17th, Serenity announced that TrendForce reports that AMD is actively ensuring the supply of CW lasers through multiple major purchase orders. It believes that this may just be the beginning of a supply bottleneck. The remaining independent production capacity in the Western supply chain is limited, except for SIVE, AAOI, and possibly Macom. Especially after Lumentum and Coherent signed a multi-year agreement with Nvidia, the related production capacity was further locked in. It is disclosed that it currently holds SIVE and AAOI. Serenity stated that Lumentum has been restricted by the supply of CW lasers and may be procuring from Japanese companies such as Sumitomo and Koga, which may also be nearing full production. According to a TrendForce report, AMD's move is "to ensure that its future production capacity will not be limited by Nvidia and other major cloud service providers (CSPs). After seeing Nvidia and AMD sign long-term agreements, other large-scale cloud service providers such as Amazon and Microsoft may also try to lock in production capacity in the future. It stated that this is largely a game to avoid being stuck in supply by competitors, and AMD may be the first domino to topple after Nvidia. Serenity stated that this also demonstrates the high value of CW laser bottlenecks and related companies. [Original link]
