[As the United States Approaches Its 250th Anniversary, Nearly 40% of Americans Doubt the Nation Will Remain Unified for Another 250 Years]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on June 16, the United States will celebrate its 250th anniversary next month. However, a Reuters/Ipsos poll reveals that nearly two-fifths of Americans believe the U.S. will not remain a unified nation for another 250 years. The four-day survey concluded on Monday and showed that 38% of respondents (including 40% of Democrats and 26% of Republicans) think the U.S. will not continue to exist as a unified country 250 years from now.
Two-thirds of respondents (including 85% of Democrats and 50% of Republicans) agreed with the statement that "American democracy is at risk of failure," a figure higher than the 57% recorded in a similar survey conducted in August last year. The percentage of Americans who believe the U.S. is the greatest country in the world is also declining. Only 30% of respondents consider the U.S. to be the greatest nation globally, down from 38% in a November 2017 survey conducted during the first term of Donald Trump.
A majority of Americans (including three-quarters of Democrats and half of Republicans) believe that the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the United States have become overly politicized.
