[National Bureau of Statistics: PPI Growth Expands but Remains Stable, Prices of Livelihood Goods Stay Steady] On June 16, Wang Guanhua, spokesperson for the National Bureau of Statistics and Deputy Director of the Department of Comprehensive Statistics of the National Economy, stated at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office that although the PPI (Producer Price Index) growth has expanded, it remains relatively stable, and the prices of livelihood goods have stayed steady. The primary reason lies in the differing connotations of PPI and CPI (Consumer Price Index). The rise in PPI exhibits clear structural characteristics, reflecting prices in the industrial production sector, whereas CPI reflects prices in the consumer sector, covering all categories of consumer goods. The transmission is mainly concentrated in the industrial consumer goods sector, with a significant proportion being food prices and service prices, which are less affected by fluctuations in industrial goods prices. Secondly, from the perspective of price transmission patterns, upstream industrial goods prices are directly influenced by international commodity prices. However, the process of transmitting upstream product prices along the industrial chain to midstream and downstream sectors is affected by factors such as market competition and technological progress, often showing a diminishing trend. Thirdly, China's economy remains generally stable, with strong resilience in industrial and supply chains, and an abundant supply of goods and services. Various policies to ensure supply and stabilize prices have been effective and robust. Notably, the state has promptly initiated and implemented a temporary control mechanism for refined oil prices, effectively offsetting the impact of international energy price fluctuations and providing strong support for the stable operation of domestic prices.
