[South Korea Plans to Fine Lawyers Misusing AI] According to a report by Jinse Finance on June 15, citing South Korean media, the South Korean Court Administration Office stated that due to issues of "hallucinations" in artificial intelligence, lawyers have been citing completely non-existent "fake precedents" in legal documents. The South Korean judiciary is intensifying efforts to address the misuse of artificial intelligence during court proceedings. An increasing number of judges have reported that plaintiffs and lawyers frequently reference non-existent cases and legal provisions during trials. A judge from a court in Seoul remarked, "In the past, I would only point out the false cases cited by lawyers in the footnotes of the judgment. Now, with such issues becoming rampant, I have to directly annotate them one by one in the main text within parentheses." The South Korean Court Administration is currently studying amendments to relevant laws and improving trial procedures, with plans to impose fines and other measures to prevent the fabrication of false legal evidence using artificial intelligence.
