[U.S. Official Denies Unfreezing $12 Billion Before U.S.-Iran Talks]
According to a report by Jinse Finance on June 15, U.S. media reported on the 14th that claims suggesting Iran would unconditionally receive $12 billion in unfrozen funds before the start of 60-day U.S.-Iran negotiations were denied by a senior U.S. official, who called it a 'misrepresentation.' The official stated: 'This is completely untrue. This is a performance-based agreement, and funds will only be unfrozen after Iran fulfills its commitments.' Earlier, according to Iran's Mehr News Agency, a draft memorandum of understanding between Iran and the U.S. contains 14 points, including: both parties will engage in 60 days of negotiations to reach a final agreement, during which $24 billion of Iran's frozen assets will be unfrozen, with half of the funds required to be provided to Iran before the negotiations begin.
